Tokyo Theme Restaurants 101! テーマレストランレビュー！

Hello there!
First of all, thanks a lot for having a time to look at my blog!!
I'm born and raised in Japan and am currently an university student in Tokyo aka the Asian city that never sleeps!! The reason why I decided to post my reviews here was that there are so many blogs that are talking about good restaurants in general but not so many on theme restaurants or unique restaurants or whatsoever in Tokyo. And in English as well. I know my English gets a bit odd sometimes but I'll try to make it as clear as possible so I hope you don't get bothered too much.  

This is my very first post so let me briefly explain what "theme restaurants" are like in Japan before I put actual reviews.
You've probably heard the word "theme restaurant" but just for those who don't know what it means yet, it is a restaurant that has a specific theme like jungle, Alice in Wonderland, prison, anime, Sengoku era(The Age of Civil Wars in Japan 1467－1615) etc. There are plenty of them in Japan, especially in Tokyo. 

Theme restaurants became quite popular worldwide when the Planet Hollywood and the Hard Rock Cafe appeared in U.S. The rain forest cafe (theme of jungle) was also very popular in Tokyo at that time. I don't know where it came from though..

Sadly, any of them isn't making a good business lately. Apparently, the reason is that the cost of building and maintaining a restaurant is too high so they charge high table fee or service fee and they reduce the cost of making better-quality food instead, thus customers stop going to the restaurant or something like that...

However, I personally think there's a new wave for theme restaurants in Japan for the past few years. 
It's not as fancy as the Hard Rock Cafe etc, but some restaurants with lower construction cost, better quality food and good cost performance are now popular. Plus, it is not like just one or two restaurants are making big success but there are many, various theme restaurants in Tokyo, Osaka and other cities as well.  And it is super fun to explore them!! I hope my reviews will help if you're wondering which theme restaurant you should go to.  


But...  theme restaurants are not like where you can go everyday because it is a little pricy more or less. It's more like once or twice a month thing. Especially for poor college students like me...!

のんびりした更新になると思いますが宜しくお願いします(^_^)/

さて、テーマ・レストラン、 ご存知の方がほとんどだと思いますが、
一応ご説明します! 

テーマ・レストラン：　独特のテーマを持ち、そのテーマに沿った内装、メニュー、接客、イベントをするレストランのこと。例えば、ジャングルをイメージしたレストラン、「不思議の国のアリス」をモデルにしたレストラン、監獄をイメージしたレストラン、戦国時代をテーマにしたレストランなど、それぞれのテーマの世界に入り込んだような気持ちにさせてくれるのがテーマ・レストランです。

私の記憶の中で最も古いテーマ・レストランは
・イクスピアリなどにあるレインフォレスト・カフェ（ジャングルをイメージ）
・ハードロック・カフェ（ロックミュージックをテーマ）
です。
いずれも、全盛期と比べればかなり人気が落ちてしまったらしいですが。。

テーマ・レストランは作るのにコストもかかるし、経営していくのが大変、もう廃れてしまった・・・なんて言われてた時期もありましたが、（今も？ｗ）
今ではたくさんのテーマ・レストランがあって、それぞれ工夫されているので、
個人的にはまだまだ楽しめると思っています(^_^)/

まあでももちろん、毎日というわけにはいきません。やはり、料理も高めだし、サービス料、テーブルチャージが別途でかかるので＞＜

月に１～２回、いつもとは違う雰囲気のディナーを味わってみたい♪などという方にはおすすめです。

本当にた～くさんのテーマ・レストランがあるみたいなので、
ひとつずつ試してレビューを書いていこうと思います☆

英語でも書くのは完全に個人的な趣味です。笑
海外の方や留学生の方、働いてる方、旅行者向けに参考になればと
思って書いてます。
